Documenting the
Moments That Shape Us

Established in Washington, DC, The Dap Project was born from a deep curiosity about connection — the kind shared through gestures, stories, and culture.
We use creative storytelling, community dialogue, and multimedia art to explore how everyday moments reflect identity, history, and love.
Our work invites people to slow down, listen, and see one another more fully.

Beautiful Also are the Souls
This multimedia exhibit pays tribute to the "living room" of Anacostia — the artists, entrepreneurs, and everyday people who bring its spirit to life.
In partnership with the Anacostia Arts Center and Wacif, Beautiful, also, are the souls weaves together oral histories, portraits, and personal narratives to reflect the vibrant legacy of a beloved community institution.
Inspired by Langston Hughes’ poem My People, the exhibit invites us to honor the past while envisioning a soulful future, together.
Our Community
Moments that move us. Faces that reflect us. A visual celebration of Black joy, resilience, and community.
Dap is a Love Language
Dap is more than a greeting — it’s a gesture rooted in history, shaped by brotherhood, and layered with meaning. From barbershops and basketball courts to street corners and art galleries, the dap has long connected Black men across generations and geographies. Through this original series, The Dap Project captures the unspoken bond behind the handshake — honoring a cultural language of love, resistance, affirmation, and pride.

Your support helps us continue capturing the stories that matter. Every donation fuels our workshops, exhibits, podcasts, and archives — making space for Black voices to be seen, heard, and remembered.
