Oral History 101 Workshop

Oral History is a practice of recording and preserving information based on the experiences of the speaker (referred to as the narrator). Narrators share personal memories, anecdotes, and recollections that may not be found in traditional media, like newspaper articles or radio interviews.

Co-creator of the Dap Project Rhonda Henderson conducted nearly twenty oral histories to understand the wide-ranging history of the Anacostia Arts Center.

Anyone can practice oral history, and many within the Anacostia Arts Center community do. This workshop welcomed new and novice oral historians to refine their skills under the facilitation of Dr. Amaka Okechukwu, a scholar who has facilitated oral history trainings for HumanitiesDC.
