Upcoming Exhibition: Begin with a Dreamer

"Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world". -- Attributed to Harriet Tubman

An art exhibition that brings well-deserved recognition to women whose vital contributions (in the areas of liberation, revolution, and democracy) to our communities and city have often gone unnoticed.

Curated by co-founder of The Dap Project, Rhonda Henderson.

Coming July 2026 to THEARC Gallery in collaboration with Building Bridges Across the River.

About Begin with a Dreamer

As the United States approaches the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, we will be reminded of the Founding Fathers.

Less well-known are the historic and contemporary contributions of women to create a “more perfect union.” Less appreciated is the scope of influence women have had in promoting the tenets of a liberated society, from the home to the community to the city.

This community-centered exhibition considers the ways women of Washington led revolutions (personal or community), liberated their communities from oppression, and defined what democracy looked like in practice of everyday living.

It draws a deliberate parallel to the founding fathers, naming and honoring the women who have done, and continue to do, the same work (largely uncelebrated).
