Dorothy Burnham is a 111-year-old artist, scholar, and cultural elder whose life embodies over a century of resilience, creativity, and historical witness. Born in 1915, she has lived through defining eras of American transformation, from the Harlem Renaissance to the Civil Rights Movement, carrying forward a lifelong commitment to education, culture, and the preservation of Black stories and artistic expression. A pioneering textile artist and lifelong advocate for learning and creativity, Dorothy has used her work to uplift communities and celebrate heritage across generations.
